SpellBoard Kelsey CloughertyThe SpellBoard App is a great tool for the weekly spelling quizzes in the elementary classroom. It can be purchased at the iTunes store for a minimum price of $4.99. The SpellBoard App has many options for the students to study their spelling words each week. Each student has their own page within the app where their previous quizzes are saved along with the results from each quiz. Having the results for each students is very beneficial to their success within the elementary classroom. The parents would be able to see how well their child is doing in the subject of spelling any time they wish. They would have access of the results through file sharing on iTunes, on their personal iPads, on their personal Macbooks and or on their iPhones through the SpellBuddy app for the iPhone. The app is also a great way for the teacher to monitor the students progress with their spelling words. The teacher can see which words the students are struggling with the most and focus on those specific words during the lessons throughout the school day. The teacher can monitor the students progress through iTunes file sharing and also through emails from the students after they have taken the practice quiz in the SpellBoard app. The app has a list of the students in the classroom so the teacher has all of the students results in one place, for easy monitoring. As the student, you may be wondering, what if my teacher does not have my spelling words uploaded yet? Well, if the teacher does not have the quiz uploaded onto iTunes the students themselves can create the quizzes by click the create quiz button. In the create quiz screen, the student would title the quiz as the teacher suggested then click add word. From there the student would type in the word, say the word into the microphone, select the grade level of the word and then click save. This then leads the student to a pop of asking if they would like to add another word to the quiz. If the student needs to add another word they would click yes, if not they would click no and the quiz would be created. After creating the quiz the student can choose to study the words choose to take the quiz. Each student has multiple opportunities to take the quiz seeing it is just for practice not an actual grade. While studying and taking the quiz the student will be read the word and given the opportunity to type out the word and practice writing it on the iPad. Writing it allows to student to see the word, taking in a mental picture of the word, helping visual learners. Also hearing the word may benefit auditory learners. Overall the app would be a success in the classroom. Student would have fun writing on the iPad and learn their spelling words while having fun. There are multiple styles of learning within the app to target different learners in the classroom.

The site offers similar options for studying as SpellBoard, like uploading their own spelling words, taking practice quizzes etc. SpellingCity offers more games for the student to study and practice their spelling words.
